Tonsils and adenoids

Removal of the tonsils and adenoids is the most common ENT-surgery kids get. This operation, done with intubation, needs not only firm indications but also an accurate surgical gesture. Nowadays due to the use of antibiotics, the main indication for surgery is the obstruction of the upper respiratory system.

- Adenoidectomy is performed under general anesthesia with intubation of the patient and under endoscopic control through the nasal passages. It helps the surgeon to assure that adenoids were fully removed, especially around the Eustachian tube. The surgery itself takes 15 minutes. The patient can be discharged from the hospital in the afternoon when he/she is given all the recommendations.

- Tonsillectomy is performed under general anesthesia with intubation of the patient. The use of bipolar coagulation ensures the tonsils removal without hemorrhage, considered the main complication after this surgery. The surgery takes 20 minutes. The patient can be discharged from the hospital around 16:00 when he/she is given the recommendations (a course of antibiotics, dietary restrictions). In case of bleeding after surgery, the patients should immediately address to the doctor.
